Ethics, Boundaries & Rural Social Work Practice

The four-hour workshop will discuss the specific challenges and considerations with ethical social work practice in rural settings. As technology connects more people in different ways, maintaining privacy and healthy boundaries can be increasingly challenging. We will discuss healthy boundaries, dual relationships, and use the NASW Code of Ethics and Reamer's Ethical Decision-Making Model to assess the ways technology and rural social practice intersect.  

Learning Objectives:

  • Participants will know the core values of social work practice, and the components of the NASW code of ethics.
     
  • Participants will we able to define professional boundary, and how rural practice may impact professional boundaries. 
     
  • Participants will learn how rural practice impacts dual relationships.
     
  • Participants will understand the risks to clients and practitioners when boundaries become unprofessional.
     
  • Participants will learn self-assessment questions to reflect on their boundaries, relationship with clients.

Kate Kipp Headshot

Kate Kipp is an advanced practice social worker with more than twenty years of practice experience in child welfare, youth justice. Kipp is an assistant professor of social work at UWSP. In her spare time, Kipp volunteers with the Girl Scouts of the Northwest Great Lakes, MCCDA Head Start, and her in her faith community.

Coursework may range from beginning to more advanced skills; minimum computer skills are required to enroll in any Microsoft class and specific prerequisites will be listed for more advanced programming.

This course brings out each persons ability to draw by very unique methods. Participants who believed they could never be artists will be inspired. This course will challenge anyone interested in understanding why they are good at art.
