Course Description: This course is designed a review for law enforcement officers certified in the State of Wisconsin. Officers participating in this course will receive training that refreshes the training that was received during their recruit / basic training. They will also receive training in areas that enhance their ability to perform their duties as a law enforcement officer. Training topics are as follows:

The four-hour workshop will discuss the specific challenges and considerations with ethical social work practice in rural settings. As technology connects more people in different ways, maintaining privacy and healthy boundaries can be increasingly challenging. We will discuss healthy boundaries, dual relationships, and use the NASW Code of Ethics and Reamer's Ethical Decision-Making Model to assess the ways technology and rural social practice intersect.  

Learning Objectives:

  • Participants will know the core values of social work practice, and the components of the NASW code of ethics.
     
  • Participants will we able to define professional boundary, and how rural practice may impact professional boundaries. 
     
  • Participants will learn how rural practice impacts dual relationships.
     
  • Participants will understand the risks to clients and practitioners when boundaries become unprofessional.
     
  • Participants will learn self-assessment questions to reflect on their boundaries, relationship with clients.

Kate Kipp is an advanced practice social worker with more than twenty years of practice experience in child welfare, youth justice.  Kipp is an assistant professor of social work at UWSP.  In her spare time, Kipp volunteers with the Girl Scouts of the Northwest Great Lakes, MCCDA Head Start, and her in her faith community.
