Course Description:
This course is designed specifically for law enforcement officers whose duty assignments require them to carry and/or utilize assault type rifles in the course of their enforcement activities. This is a training and qualification course that focuses on the use of various semiautomatic rifles used by law enforcement officers. Subject matter for this course includes: (1) Overview of Law Enforcement Rifle Applications; (2) Firearms Safety Considerations; (3) Care and Maintenance of the Rifle; (4) Establishing and Maintaining the Rifle's 'Zero;' (5) Fundamentals of Rifle Marksmanship; (6) Basic Combat Shooting Techniques; (7) Individual Training and Documentation, etc. Participating officers will also be required to participate in extensive practical (live firing) exercises and must achieve prescribed standards of performance to successfully complete this course.
Materials/Equipment Needed:
Equipment Required. Modern Police Rifle with 3 magazines, 300 rounds rifle ammunition (ball OK), duty belt with handgun and 3 magazines, 50 rounds handgun ammunition, Eye and hearing protection, ballistic vest, appropriate clothing for range use in all weather conditions, hydration. Cleaning kit for weapons.
Prerequisites:
Officers participating in this course must be fully or provisionally certified law enforcement officer as prescribed by the Wisconsin Department of Justice, Bureau of Training and Standards. It is strongly suggested that law enforcement agency administrators give careful consideration to an officer's marksmanship ability as well as his/her personal discipline prior to assignment to this training course.)
