Biography
I have always had a drive to help people. This led me to earn my B.A. in psychology from Shepherd University. I worked as an autism therapist for three years, and then I took time off to be a stay-at-home parent. During this time, it was my daughter's passion for animals that led me to recognize my own love of animals as viable career option. I returned to school, earning my A.A.S. and becoming a Certified Veterinary Technician. By the time I graduated, it was my goal to return to Academia as an instructor, marrying my two loves together: animals and helping people.
With my new goal in mind, I worked to gain experience widely and quickly. I interned at AERC in Oakdale, MN, learning emergency and critical care, neurology, surgery and anesthesia, dentistry, and rehabilitation. Next I spent three years working in a small-town, mixed animal practice. Lastly, I spent two-and-a-half years at a veterinary clinic that specializes in exotic animal medicine before accepting a full-time position at Northwood Tech. I'm lucky to be a part of a faculty that values meeting each student where they are, adapting to an ever-changing field, and maintaining excellence without sacrificing human connection and kindness.
