"In no other industry do you get to work on the water, out in the sun and go for boat rides too. The marine repair industry is very stable and can generally withstand economic changes. Boat sales are very dependent on the strength of the economy, but boat repairs are quite resistant to economic downswings. Simply, if someone can't afford a new boat, they get their old one repaired."

Biography

After high school graduation, Todd attended training at Johnson Outboard motors in Waukegan, Ill. Following college and with a desire to work in the marine industry, he worked at a marine dealership and was promoted to service manager. In 1985, he moved to Minneapolis where he repaired customer boats and did custom rigging on larger new boats. In 1987, he moved to Duluth and worked on larger cruisers and sailboats. 

In 1988, Todd achieved Master Technician status with Outboard Marine Corporation – the highest certification level for Johnson and Evinrude outboards, and OMC sterndrives. He is also certified in Mercury, Honda and Yamaha outboards, and Mercruiser and Volvo-Penta sterndrives. In 2002, he was selected to be on the board of directors of the Association of Marine Technicians (AMTECH).

In his free time, Todd enjoys bicycling, camping, skiing, home improvement projects and spending time with his family.
