Smiles and Success: Isabelle’s Path to Becoming a Dental Assistant

March 06, 2025

Isabelle Hansch, a Dental Assistant student from Clayton, is following her passion for dentistry at Northwood Tech, where her perseverance and dedication are helping shape the future of local healthcare.

In honor of Dental Assistants Recognition Week, Northwood Technical College is highlighting Isabelle Hansch, a Clayton native and student in the college’s Dental Assistant program. Isabelle has always had a passion for dentistry. While still in high school, she worked at a dental office, an experience that sparked her interest in the field. After graduating, she moved to Green Bay at age 18 and spent a year completing general education courses, initially planning to pursue a degree in dental hygiene. However, she ultimately decided to return home and enroll in Northwood Tech’s Dental Assistant program—a choice she’s proud of today.

Why Northwood Tech?

“Northwood Tech drew my attention because of how tight-knit the community is,” Hansch said. “Another big factor was that it was close to home!”

A Rewarding Education

Northwood Tech’s Dental Assistant program offers students a chance to build a rewarding career in dentistry. Through hands-on learning, classroom instruction, and practical experience, students gain the skills needed to assist dentists in providing excellent patient care. This includes tasks like taking X-rays, managing patient records, and keeping the office running smoothly. The program plays an important role in Northwood Tech’s vision of transforming communities by training skilled professionals who will meet the growing workforce needs in the region.

Building Friendships and Staying Motivated

Since starting at Northwood Tech, Hansch has built meaningful friendships that have made her educational journey even more rewarding. Though she has faced moments of self-doubt, she credits her classmates, instructors, and family for helping her stay motivated.

“Everyone inspires me in one way or another, and it is very uplifting to know that people believe in me and my ability to be a great dental assistant,” she said.

Looking Toward the Future

Looking ahead to graduation in spring 2025, Hansch is eager to enter the workforce, knowing her education will not only benefit her future but also contribute to the oral health of her community.

“I look forward to creating healthier lives and uplifting others,” she said.

Gratitude for Mentors

She also expressed gratitude for Dental Assistant Instructor Megen Elliott.

“Megen is always smiling and making everyone in the class laugh. She’s a great person to lean on and truly an inspiration,” Hansch said.

Reflecting on the Journey

Reflecting on her journey, Hansch remains proud of the steps she has taken—moving to Green Bay, forming friendships, and ultimately returning home to follow her passion for dental assisting. Her perseverance and dedication make her a shining example of student success at Northwood Tech and reflect how she is helping shape the future of local healthcare.
