Northwood Tech BPA students qualify for National Conference

Northwood Tech BPA students shine at Wisconsin BPA State Leadership Conference, secure national advancement.

3/19/2024 – Northwood Technical College Business Professionals of America (BPA) students competed in the annual Wisconsin BPA State Leadership Conference in February.  This year, Northwood Tech BPA had eight students compete. Out of the nine students that competed, eight have advanced to the National Conference.

With the success of the Northwood Tech BPA students at the State Conference, here are the placement results:

  • Gianna Froelich, office support specialist program: Basic Office Systems & Procedures, first place; Fundamental Word Processing, first place.
  • Katherine Hegg, administrative coordinator: Graphic Design and Promotion, first place; Interview Skills, first place; Basic Office Systems & Procedures, fourth place.
  • Bethanie Holly, accounting: College Accounting, third place; Prepared Speech, third place.
  • Kaila Kastens, administrative coordinator: Fundamental Word Processing, second place.
  • Kate Meck, business management/human resources: Personal Financial Management, first place; Business Law & Ethics, second place; Contemporary Issues, second place; Prepared Speech, second place.
  • Mandy Selkow, administrative coordinator: Fundamental Spreadsheet Applications, first place; Integrated Office Applications, second place; Basic Office Systems & Procedures, third place; Fundamental Word Processing, third place.
  • Shelby Tenney, administrative coordinator: Fundamental Desktop Publishing, first place.
  • Melissa Trepanier, administrative coordinator: Intermediate Word Processing, first place; Basic Office Systems & Procedures, second place; Integrated Office Applications, third place.

The students also participated in many open events in which they received certificates, but do not advance to Nationals. While at the conference, Kate Meck, WI post-secondary division president, passed the Merit Scholar Exam with a 92 percent to be recognized as a WI Merit Scholar Recipient.  Gianna Froelich was awarded the Mike Tokheim Scholarship – one of four in the state.
