Hayward High Senior Brooke Laier is Fast-Tracking Her Future Through Dual Credit in the Financial Services Academy

Brooke Laier, a senior at Hayward High School, is making strides toward her career goals by earning dual credit through Northwood Technical College’s Financial Services Academy. With her sights set on a future in business, Brooke is taking courses that count toward a Financial Services Customer Representative technical diploma, all while still in high school.
Brooke’s journey began when she discovered her passion for business in an introductory class at Hayward High. “I found out about the academy through my school,” she shares. “Since I enjoyed my intro to business class, I decided to enroll in Northwood Tech’s courses. The opportunity to earn college credits that transfer to other schools has given me a head start on my future education.”
As part of the Financial Services Academy, Brooke is not only developing her knowledge of business and customer service but also challenging herself academically. “I like the ability to challenge myself in areas that I enjoy,” she explains. The skills she’s learning will prepare her for success in a variety of business settings, and she plans to apply them in the world of sports management after graduation.
Brooke credits several influential teachers at Hayward High School—Mr. Lamoureux, Mrs. Thompson, and Mrs. Ripley—whose support and encouragement helped her find direction in her academic career. They played pivotal roles in her enrollment in the Financial Services Academy and helped her overcome challenges like test anxiety, ensuring she stayed on track for success.
Looking to the future, Brooke is excited to major in sports management, where she hopes to use the skills she’s gained in customer service and business to help sports teams grow as organizations.
