October 17, 2023
While there is a cost associated for campers to attend, there are many other expenditures that need to be offset with some form of aid to support the annual camp. With donors like Cenovus Energy to support programs such as ‘Fired Up for the Future’ through their benevolent donations, the camp and its volunteers are provided resources and the ability to provide an immersive experience designed for the 32 registered students entering grades 7-12. Campers embark on a five-day, overnight, in-residence adventure that promises to be a transformative experience for aspiring young firefighters, emergency medical technicians (EMTs), and future leaders.
During the annual camp that takes place in August at the Chippewa Valley Council Camp Phillips in Haugen, Wisconsin, campers engage in a series of activities that simulate the life of a firefighter and EMT as participants step into the shoes of a firefighter and EMT. From basic firefighting techniques to emergency medical procedures, participants will gain valuable insights into these vital professions through hands-on experience and learning basic skills in these critical fields. Moreover, the leadership component of the camp empowers young minds to develop essential teamwork, communication, and problem-solving skills. The weeks’ worth of activities and training culminate in a skills-based competition on the last day for campers to compete and display their newly acquired skills.
As the camp fosters a passion for firefighting and EMS, it also serves as a steppingstone for future career paths. Overall, camp is not just an adventure; it is a must for anyone contemplating a career in the EMT or firefighting profession. In the end, participants will leave with a deeper understanding and unique perspective of these fields, as well as a potential newfound drive to pursue a career as a firefighter or EMT. This camp not only ignites careers, but also the passion to make a difference in the community.
