Anthony Deaton: From Northwood Tech's Hospitality Foundations program to a promising career at Hudson YMCA

Anthony Deaton, an alum of the Hospitality Foundations program at Northwood Technical College, graduated in the spring of 2024 and quickly secured a position at the Hudson YMCA. His journey is a testament to the program and the opportunities that students gain from it.
A Decision for Experience
Anthony's decision to attend Northwood Tech was fueled by his desire to gain practical work experience. The college's supportive atmosphere and hands-on learning approach were pivotal for him. "Teamwork and dedication are my favorite parts about attending Northwood Tech," Anthony shares, emphasizing the collaborative spirit that defines the program.
One of the most impactful experiences for Anthony was his internship. "I had my internship at the center, so it kind of got me more ready for this job, and I got more experience," he says. This internship provided him with valuable insights and prepared him for his role at the YMCA.

Looking to the Future
As an alum, Anthony is eager to continue applying the skills he acquired at Northwood Tech. "I look forward to working," he says with enthusiasm. His determination and readiness to take on new challenges are evident as he progresses in his professional journey.
Anthony is enthusiastic about his future career growth at the Hudson YMCA. "I think it's going to be great. I just want to learn more about the machines and prepare for long-term goals," he shares. His eagerness to expand his skills is evident.
Ryan Klingaman, Operations Director at Hudson YMCA, sees significant potential in Anthony. "When I brought Anthony on the team, there was a big gap of help here, and he had to step in and learn everything we do. As he learns new machines, we can move him up to a custodial two position and potentially full-time," Ryan explains. He was particularly impressed by Anthony's forward-thinking mindset, noting, "One of the most impressive things was when he asked about retirement options during the interview. It showed he was raised right and is looking far into the future." Ryan added, “He has shown the drive to learn and grow, while bringing a great energy and smile, strong work ethic, and team mindset. He makes our team so much stronger and I’m excited to see his continued growth and path within the organization.”
